Menopause Resource Guide

SUPPORTS AND SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS NAVIGATING PERIMENOPAUSE AND MENOPAUSE

Are you navigating peri/menopause?

Supporting someone who is?

Then this Menopause Resource Guide is for you.

At Cherry Tree Counselling, we believe in the village. The mental health and well-being of women in midlife are deeply important, yet many people move through perimenopause and menopause without clear information, validation, or support.

As therapists and as women who have witnessed and experienced these transitions ourselves, we recognize the gaps in care that continue to exist.

We want to help close that gap by offering a community of care that is informed, accessible, and grounded in understanding. A community where women feel supported, resourced, and not alone in navigating this stage of life.

This Menopause Resource Guide includes a list of local (Dundas/Hamilton), Ontario-wide, and national supports, including: healthcare providers, therapists, support groups, community organizations, educational platforms, and more.

This guide is not an exhaustive list of all available supports. If you know of, would like to recommend, or are a provider offering menopause-related services, please fill out the form below or reach out to us at: admin@cherrytreecounselling.ca

Why is menopause-informed care important?

Many women arrive at perimenopause and menopause without a map.

Symptoms are often misunderstood, minimized, or attributed solely to stress, aging, or mental health concerns without considering the role of hormonal change. This can leave individuals feeling confused, dismissed, or unsupported.

Menopause-informed care helps bridge that gap.

At its core, this approach acknowledges the interplay between physical, emotional, cognitive, and relational changes during midlife. It recognizes that experiences such as anxiety, mood shifts, sleep disruption, and changes in identity are not happening in isolation, but within a broader physiological transition.

Without this understanding, women are often left trying to make sense of what is happening on their own.

Menopause-informed care offers something different.

It validates that these experiences are real.

It creates space to explore both the emotional impact and the physical context of these changes.

It also helps reduce the likelihood of misdiagnosis or over-pathologizing what may, in part, be hormonally influenced shifts.

At a broader level, menopause-informed care challenges the long-standing silence around this stage of life.

It pushes back against the idea that women should simply endure these changes quietly, or that their experiences are something to minimize or move past quickly.

Instead, it makes room for a different narrative.

One where midlife is approached with curiosity, support, and respect, and where women are given the information and care they need to navigate this transition in a way that feels informed and empowered.

Barriers to care for perimenopause and menopause exist.

There are many reasons why women have difficulty accessing appropriate support during peri/menopause.

These challenges often fall into three areas:

1. Lack of awareness and education

Many people are not taught what to expect during perimenopause and menopause, making it difficult to recognize symptoms or know where to seek support.

2. Fragmented care systems

Physical and mental health are often treated separately, leaving gaps in care for those experiencing overlapping symptoms.

3. Dismissal and normalization of symptoms

Concerns are sometimes minimized or attributed to stress or aging, which can delay access to meaningful support.

There are many common experiences during perimenopause and menopause.

While every experience is different, many women report:

  • changes in mood, including anxiety, irritability, or low mood

  • sleep disruption and fatigue

  • cognitive changes such as brain fog or difficulty concentrating

  • shifts in identity, relationships, and sense of self

  • changes in sexual health and body experience

These are not simply individual challenges. They are shaped by broader social, medical, and cultural contexts.
